Activities
List of activities that involve gross motor, fine motor, and team building skills through the Special Olympics.

Crafts
Heart Threading-fine motor skills
Materials:
construction paper
yarn
single hole punch
coloring utensils
Directions: note that steps are easily altered based on ability
1. Students can either trace their own heart shape or cut out one that I already drawn for them.
2. Once the heart is cut out students can use the single hole puncher to punch holes in the heart. Students can either go around the edge or place the hole randomly.
3. Once holes are finished, allow students to thread their yarn through the holes and make their desired design.
4. Make sure the yarn is securely tied when finished.
Finger Painting- fine motor skills
Materials:
thick paper such as tag board
finger paint in various colors
painters tape
baby wipes
paint smocks
Directions: the steps for this activity may be altered to meet the abilities of all students
1. Before running the activity with your students, tape different words using the painters tape to the tag board.
Examples: love, peace, friendship, joy
2. On the day of the activity allow students to pick which word they would like to paint.
3. Have each student put on a smock to help keep their clothes clean while painting.
4. Pass out the different colored paints and let each student paint their picture using the colors of their choosing.
5. When they are finished set the pictures in a safe place to dry and using the baby wipes help each student clean off their hands.
